THE SOUTH AFRICAN INSTITUTION
OF CIVIL ENGINEERING
(“SAICE”)

ASSOCIATION OF ARBITRATORS (SOUTHERN AFRICA) NPC
(“AoA”)

CO-OPERATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN AOA AND SAICE

The Association of Arbitrators has enjoyed a long period of informal co-operation with the South African Institution of Civil Engineering.  Much common ground exists between the two organisations in terms of their respective interests in construction related matters, including the resolution of disputes through the medium of mediation, adjudication and arbitration.  In addition, both organisations conduct training on related topics and many members of SAICE are also members of AOA and vice versa.  SAICE, as an ECSA related body, is also able to facilitate accreditation for CPD purposes of both short and long term training lectures and courses.  Both parties have significant data bases which allow marketing of courses to targeted audiences and which have been used historically, and will continue to be used, to disseminate invitations for training and lectures/webinars to a wider audience.

The AoA is therefore pleased to announce that this long-standing informal arrangement has now been placed on a more formal footing by the creation of a steering committee dedicated to furthering co-operation between the organisations as well as the assignment of a key member of staff of each organisation in order to ensure efficient communication and facilitation of matters arising.  In the case of the AoA, this person is Ms Rochelle Appleton, the General Manager.

The aims and objectives and the necessary practical framework have now been recorded in a Memorandum of Understanding signed by, on behalf of the AOA, our Chairman, Adv Pierre Rossouw SC, and on behalf of the SAICE, by their CEO, Mr Vishaal Lutchman Pr Eng.
