SPECIALISATION IN CONSTRUCTION LAW COURSE
(Module 5)

Introduction

This Specialisation in Construction Law Course (commonly referred to as “the SCL Course” or “the Specialisation Course”) is ideal for persons who are interested in gaining an understanding of the construction law in South Africa.

Successful candidates will obtain and be presented with a “Certificate of Specialisation in Construction Law”.

Qualification for Application

Candidates must be members of the Association, and must be either Fellows (FAArb), lawyers or who have successfully completed Modules 1 and 3 of the Correspondence Courses.

The consideration to grant Associate (AAArb) membership status to a candidate is in the sole discretion of the Association’s Board of Directors.

Course Structure

The SCL Course is a one year online course.  After being admitted to the course, candidates will be furnished with course notes via the e-Learning Portal.  The course is mostly self-study based and assignments must be submitted on various prescribed dates.  The assignments will be marked by the designated tutor who will also furnish a commentary.

Course Syllabus

This course is specifically directed at the interests and requirements of practitioners in the construction industry.  The course deals with legal principles related to various elements which comprise construction contracts and how they should be dealt with in our law.

Three assignments must be submitted during the course, of which at least two must be passed with a 50% pass rate to be eligible for admission to writing the examination.

Workshops and Seminars

The SCL Course is an online correspondence course and, as such, there are no formal lectures presented.  Students must attend four compulsory online workshops during the year.

Examinations

The online examination will be written annually during November.  The examination will be an open book examination.

Fees

The course fees (inclusive of VAT) are: R25 000.00

The course material will only be made available to candidates upon proof of full payment.
